Description
Dawsonville, Ga., residents, along with those in surrounding North Georgia towns and of course the ever-so-supportive fan base of Bill Elliott and the Elliott family are invited and encouraged to come to the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame to show their support for Bill’s son, Chase, as he embarks on his first full-season in the Nationwide Series.
Chase, 18, will be piloting the No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet for JR Motorsports.
The race will be shown on the theater screen at the GRHOF (there will be no fee to enter). Gordon Pirkle, President of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, would like to see the place packed with fans to support yet another hometown boy as he makes his mark in the NASCAR ranks.
“I am very excited about Chase,” said Gordon Pirkle, “and that we have the opportunity to do this at the GRHOF like we did with Bill (Elliott) at the Pool Room in the 80’s when fans would come out and watch the races and cheer him on.”
People first took notice of Dawsonville, Ga., back in the early-mid 80s. The year was 1985 when Bill Elliott, young and virtually unknown in the NASCAR world stormed around the high-banked tracks of Daytona and Talladega setting records still unbeaten today. Along the way, media and fans alike, were intrigued by this guy hailing from Dawsonville, Ga. They wanted to know him and in order to do so, traveled to his hometown.
“Awesome Bill from Dawsonville” was created and stuck. And fans from all over the country and even internationally began descending upon this town nestled in the North Georgia Mountains.
Locals were proud to show off their gem of a town and one in particular was fond of their boy who put Dawsonville on the map. Pirkle, owner of the Dawsonville Pool Room, began the tradition of sounding a siren every time Elliott scored a win in his 20-plus year career.
Keeping with tradition, Pirkle did the very same for Chase. When he won a race, the siren could be heard all throughout Dawsonville. But the younger Elliott raced whenever he could and won often so Pirkle, decided a newer, larger and more impressive siren was needed.
Fans that visit the GRHOF will have the opportunity to see this siren, along with numerous racing memorabilia and if it happens to be on race day and you hear the siren, well, you know Chase has just taken a trip to victory circle!
Come out and show your support during the live airing of the race at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville, Ga. If you have any questions please give us a call at (706) 216-7223.
